DANNY NELSON 1952 - 2004

The directors, staff and friends of G.R. Wright & Sons Ltd., flour millers held a sponsored walk along a 10 mile stretch of the River Lee from Ponders End Lock on 5th September 2004 in memory of our driver, Danny Nelson.
The walk took place under blazing sunshine and the sum of £11,500.00 raised has gone to The Isabel Hospice.
Members of Danny's family, friends, customers, suppliers to the flour mill and the directors and staff, attended the walk. It was a great tribute to Danny who was such a popular figure with all of us.
The party at the mill after the walk was a great success too. Not only was it great fun but it also raised a further £1,000 for the hospice. It was a truly collective endeavour with people making cakes and bringing raffle prizes, cream teas, the cake stall, the bar did well! A barbeque was on the go most of the day with an ice cream stall, 'bash the rat' and a wine game, much was raised at raffle with every penny raised going to the hospice.
Danny's widow Jan, his daughter Kay and son Chris were responsible for raising a quarter of the amount raised to The Isabel Hospice who looked after Danny towards the end of his days.
