SCOFA SODA BREAD
03 March 1999 00:00

This year marks the eighth year of Wright's Scofa Soda Bread Competition. All entrants will submit a Scofa loaf baked in its traditional and distinctive shape plus a quarter round. This allows judging on two aspects, the appearance of the product and examination of the texture and baked quality.
The winner will receive the coveted Wright's Challenge Shield along with the sum of £100 in prize money. This gives both baker and bakery the opportunity for much press coverage and a trophy that will enhance their business. There will also be trophies for the two runners up and certificates for Highly Commended and Commended.
Scofa Soda Bread has a history itself. Based on traditional Irish Soda Bread and baked by generations of Scottish Highland Crofters on a griddle over a peat fire. They produced a product called a SCOttish FArl which is where SCOFA took its name from. The Highlands of Scotland have long been home to a particularly wholesome yet simple fare and Scofa is as wholesome as its namesake, giving your customers a timely reminder of good things past.
Scofa is made from the finest quality flour with flakes of wheat bran for high fibre, following the original recipe as used by the Crofters. Scofa gives the distinctive taste and texture of traditional Soda Bread. A delicious and healthy alternative to the everyday loaf.
